Westminster City Council - Sign Review

Allan Howard BEng(Hons) CEng FILP(Technical Manager - Lighting WSP)

One2See LED energy efficient sign

Trial locations at Wilfred Street, Westminster, ‘no entry’ signs on the junction with Buckingham Gate and ‘one-way’ signs at the junction with Palace Street.

The images below show the trial installations of the latest One2See energy efficient LED internally illuminated signs installed at the locations indicated above. The signs only consume around 4 Watts of electricity which is around a third of next most energy efficient sign that we are aware of. As can be seen the lighting of the sign face has a high uniformity and whether it is viewed against a bright or dark back ground provides the information required without being too bright or too dull to be viewed against the background luminance levels.

The signs are also very slim in profile thus have a minimal day time visual impact on the street scene.
